ICE Today: Allegations, Detentions, and Human Stories
Allegations of abuse and discrimination based on skin colour and ethnicity against individuals targeted by the US immigration enforcement agency ICE continue to be reported. At the same time, some who are detained are said to being put under pressure to voluntarily give up their claims of asylum or other reasons to remain in the US, while there are concerns about the conditions and treatment of some who are being held at some detention centres.
In this week’s edition of Impact! we try to unpick these allegations of excessive force, racial profiling, poor detention conditions, and deaths in custody, drawing on reports of continuing abuse from HRW, ACLU and others that some say amount to more than a few isolated cases. We seek to understand what life is like for the many who may be the targets for such action. As always, we see where we may want to hone in with our intentions and prayers.
Suggested Intention Focus for this week
This week, as we reflect on the allegations of human rights abuse being made against some recent ICE operations in the USA, we suggest holding as our main intention:
We will that all in DHS and ICE leadership will be moved by a desire to see that all employees and contractors to their organisations will respect human dignity and comply with high standards for treating all suspected illegal immigrants fairly and humanely.
Please join us in holding this.
Intentions and prayers start at 28 minutes 46 seconds.
